One of the most challenging topics in the field of orthopedics are complex fractures around the knee. Most of these fractures are the result of severe and high-energy accidents.
Complications of these fractures include neurovascular complications, joint mobility, malfunction, and osteoarthritis in the future.
soft tissue must be considered in these fractures. In some cases, using an external fixator is helpful. In some cases, two-step surgery is recommended, depending on the condition of the skin or soft tissue . The important point is the timing of the surgery, which is better to postpone the definitive fixation until after the disappear of edema and the inflammation and skin problems.
In fixing these fractures, the idea of the joint surface and the alignment of the limb should be considered.
